How to get your résumé past Greenhouse
Greenhouse is one of the most common applicant tracking systems at tech companies, from startups to large public companies. Its job pages usually live at boards.greenhouse.io or job-boards.greenhouse.io.
Applying through Greenhouse
- The form is short: your résumé, contact details and a few custom questions from the company.
- Custom questions appear on the application page itself. Answer them as carefully as the résumé; recruiters read them.
- Upload a PDF or Word file with real text. Recruiters search candidates by keyword inside Greenhouse, so the posting’s own terms matter.
Applause can follow Greenhouse careers pages for you: paste a company’s Greenhouse careers page into Discover and we’ll check it, rank new postings against your profile, and tell you when a strong match appears.
What works in every ATS
Use the posting’s words
Recruiters search inside the ATS by keyword. Where the posting says “stakeholder management” and you did it, say “stakeholder management”, not “worked with partners”.
Put key skills in two places
Once in a skills block near the top, and once in a bullet that proves it. That’s how both a filter and a human find it.
Match the title, honestly
Use the job title’s words in your headline if they fit your level. Never claim a level above yours.
State your years
“Product manager with 8+ years” in the summary is read literally by filters and recruiters alike.
Keep the layout plain
One column, standard headings, real text. No tables, text boxes, images or key details in headers and footers.
Send the right file
PDF or Word both work in modern systems. When a form accepts Word, it’s the safest choice for older ones.
